A Control Room is the operations center from which a company can manage production facilities, video surveillance and much more. Considering its strategic importance within a company, when does it become necessary to upgrade or renovate a control room?
Just like consumer technology, time renders it obsolete: aging monitors are more prone to failure, spare parts for old computers become increasingly hard to find, regulations and standards change, or, quite simply, the data flow processed by the control room becomes too heavy for the existing technology.
Inevitably, this leads to operational slowdowns, potential data loss, or even cybersecurity breaches.
Upgrading or Renovating the Control Room?
To maintain high operational efficiency, it is highly recommended to update and upgrade your Control Room over the years and, in more critical cases, completely renovate it.
Typical upgrades include replacing monitors with high-performance models featuring higher brightness, greater resolution, and advanced features. Other examples include swapping out PCs for more powerful components, upgrading to new servers capable of processing larger data loads, and replacing outdated workstations with modern, custom-designed desks that comply with the latest ergonomic standards. Finally, old chairs can be replaced with new 24/7 seating (ergonomic chairs specifically designed to prevent operator fatigue).

A renovation, on the other hand, can involve either a complete overhaul of the Control Room or the replacement of specific parts of the system.
A complete overhaul is usually carried out when the entire building housing the room is being renovated. In such cases, it is much more cost-effective to completely rebuild the Control Room, equipping it with state-of-the-art technology.
A partial renovation, however, is better suited for specific scenarios—for example, when replacing an old, worn-out video wall while the rest of the infrastructure remains highly functional.
Upgrading or renovating a Control Room ensures better operational efficiency and greater comfort for the operators.
